Pacemakers and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators require routine follow-ups or "tune-ups" to ensure they are operating efficiently and to help monitor for any changes in a patients heart rhythm. The Device Clinic is managed by an experienced electrophysiologist and staff that are familiar with the latest cardiac device technology from several device manufacturers. Cardiac devices have multiple settings and functions that can be adjusted, externally with a computer based device programmer, to the benefit of the patient. Some of the newer device technology allows us to check a patients device from an easy to use, portable, transmitter that can be used from home or while travelling. Device follow-ups are scheduled anywhere from once a month to once a year but we have the flexibility to see patients and check their devices on a same-day basis for urgent needs or for patients that our visiting the Gulf Coast area.
